i love nirvana

short descriptions of what i love

bleach

i really like the tone. its really raw sounding so i love that. a lot of the riffs, specifically the b side of the album, are really catchy. i think the original release (without love buzz, big cheese, or downer) is better tho. the a side ending with paper cuts and b starting with negative creep is good progression id say, and ending with sifting is perfect. i just think its fitting that both sides end with a really slow sludge like song. it sucks big long now didnt make the cut, but the albums still really good. 9.9/10

nevermind

great tones, but to me it feels too radio friendly. but its their most popular album for a reason. fav song on it is drain you. in this one the bass feels a lot more prominent. i think something in the way is a good ending. and the title is amazing too, it really captures the whole mood of the song. it also kinda shows what they would later make for in utero, with the cello. i do like how most of the b side, like bleach, are energetic (mainly territorial pissings, stay away, on a plain). 9.6/10

in utero

its perfect. from what ive heard, kurt seemed to sorta be at his lowest (well actually id say somewhere in 1994 was, but still wasnt doing well at this time), and this entire album really matches that. in utero has a lot more structured lyrics. i dont mind the other albums having nonsense for lyrics, but having good sounding music AND good lyrics is one of the things that make this album better than the others. i love the opener, feels really rock n roll sounding. scentless apprentice i actually disliked at first, it was probably my least favorite nirvana song. but its grown on me over time and i think its actually super good. it just feels a lot more like a deposit of anger. and then right after that being heart shaped box, i say at least, is fitting. its good contrast. obv, its the most popular song off the album, but its for REALLY good reason. its actually the song that got me into nirvana! the chorus just feels like an explosion of sound. rape me is right after and its a good song. great song to play around the family! anyways, the title is ironic so thats cool. frances farmer (shortened) feels talked about less usually, buts its good too. the demo (not home demo the instrumental demo) is super good too. i love how the song feels heavier and sludgier than the rest of the songs before it. and the solo part is great too. dumb being the last song on the a side is good progression id say. the whole song feels really atmospheric, and i like the instrumentals a ton. this is one of the other songs (including serve the servants, heart shaped box, pennyroyal tea), where you can see the improved lyrics. the demo guitar tone is AMAZING. but i think the release version is best. very ape and milk it both energetic songs (ig every one of their album's b side starts with energetic songs, huh?). pennyroyal tea is my fav off in utero, i just love the verse kinda tricks you into thinkings its a calm song, and then the chorus hits (verse chorus verse reference..?). radio friendly unit shifter is an alright song. HOWEVER, i LOVEEEE the demo. just the gutiar just feels like its crashing in at the start and just sounds so raspy and scratchy. all the beeps in the demo just make it feels so amazing. tourettes is a really good song. the feedback at the start and end of the demo is really good. but the release version is still good, and the lyrics are verrrrrry good (trust). all apologies. idk where to begin with this one. i love how it starts so clean, and by the end it has a dirty sound. the demo is super good too, love how it sounds like a beatles song. funny how all the other demos (on the deluxe edition), are usually more similar sounding to bleach with more feedback and being more distorted, and then all apologies is so different and doesnt even sound like nirvana. 10/10

illiteracy will prevail

some of the songs on here lowk SUCK ;-;. but the ones i like most are sound of dentage, vaseline, bambi slaughter, and anorexorcist. i love the part in sound of dentage with the palm muting, and where it gets really slow. vaseline is just catchy imo, and i like the solo a lot. bambi slaughter is also really catchy, esp the intro with the drums and bass. sounds more like 60s garage rock. anorexorcist is a bit weird. some parts are good, but some parts are bad. i really like the part around 6 minutes in tho, it sounds really dark, same with 4:15 in, the guitar just sounds so haunting, vocals kinda off, but theyre still good. the main riff is good ofc.

demos

so some of the demos i like are pen cap chew, if you must, anorexcorcist, sappy, verse chorus verse, token eastern song, old age, and i love her, poison's gone, and do re mi. do re mi is the best one out of all id say. it just feels so emotional, and the whole song just disturbs me for some reason. but for that, its a great song. pen cap chew has some really good vocals, and that one part (i believe its the chorus) is SUPER catchy. if you must probably has kurts best screaming work (next to maybe paper cuts). and the other parts of the songs also feel catchy. sappy they kinda kept trying at it, but it never worked out. the home demo is probably the most haunting demo out of all the other ones. the nevermind demo is alright. 1990 studio demo is alright too. in utero mix sounds quite good actually. and live at pine st theatre is my fav, i just love the tone a lot. anorexorcist is probably one of their most heaviest songs. love it for that. token eastern song. vocals amazing. something else, something new!!!! verse chorus is really weird, kinda sounds like 2 riffs combined, but i REALLY like the vocals. and i love her is so depressing its insane T_T. i cant count how many times ive cried to this one chat. feels so different from the original. poisons gone is REALLY good. im sure if nirvana continued there wouldve been smth like frances farmer. old age shouldve been on nevermind. maybe it wouldve felt a bit out of place, but polly kinda feels so too. i cant really explain the mood of the song. it feels melancholic.

b sides

a lot of nirvana b sides arent actually that good tbh, but that doesnt mean theyre all bad. been a son, stain, sliver, even in his youth, and marigold. been a son feels a bit different from most of nirvanas stuff, but its a catchy song. stain i really like, feels really dirty. sliver is VERY different from other nirvana songs. sounds very 90s. but i think its a good song, i really like the distortion. even in his youth is alright UNTIL, until the chorus. the chorus is SUPER good. i like the feedback too. marigold is really different too. the song structure is different, and its dave singing so that makes it even more different. its a really good song tho. idk what mood would describe it tho. also since i have no where else to put it, you know youre right is super good too. its a really relatable song, and i find myself listening to it when things havent been so swell. the lyrics are SUPERB in this song. "i have never failed to fail", "i always knew it would come to this, no thought was put into this".
